Because we have found a great need among the hungry and homeless in the Rockford Community, the Congregation has made a commitment to be servants of God in these missions. Volunteers operate all the ministries.
Mission House apartments are on the second floor of the "White House." For over 22 years, the apartments have been a refuge for battered women, homeless, AIDS victims, ex-prison inmates, single moms and the mentally challenged. Over the years, this ministry has had an impact in changing many lives.
The Emmanuel Mission House was established in October 1982. It is located in the White House next to the church. 20 different churches and organizations are involved in serving. The Soup Kitchen is located on the first floor where 3 noon meals per week are served averaging 1,500 meals each month. Emmanuel hosts and manages a monthly schedule of volunteers who cook and serve the meals.
The Food Pantry was started in 1977 and is located on Emmanuel's first floor Sunday school wing. It is open two mornings each week and serves over 1000 families in the Rockford area each month. The need has increased dramatically as we have been serving more people in recent years. Donations of food and funds provide us the ability to meet the challenges and the growing need in Rockford.
In addition, Emmanuel supports and partners with other ministries Habitat for Humanity is an example.
