A Journey of Spiritual Growth, Development, and Healing
At Emmanuel we believe we are all on our own journey that leads us, out of our longing, to be closer to God. This is a lifelong journey through the many stages of our lives, through the successes and failures, the hopes and dreams. As Martin Luther said, "we become "Little Christs", becoming compassionate servants of God by seeing Christ in all things.
Practice
We must find a daily practice in our lives so as not to go back to sleep. The life of the church at Emmanuel provides opportunities to stay awake, through serving the congregation and the community. In addition there are many small groups, forums, guest authors and poets that help us to look beyond ourselves and stay open to who God imagines us to be.
Enter into the life of the church which is transforming. When we discover our gifts from God and share them with others in the community, we become servants, affecting every day of our lives, the way we care about others and our relationship with God.
There is a Wisconsin Retreat Center called Manitoumie, which means, "Land where the Spirit dwells" in a 120 acre wooded area that has retreats 2-3 times per year. These retreats are opportunities to develop daily practices, meditate, explore our prayer life, deepen experience, further our journey, analyze and discuss events in our daily lives, and enter into silent reflection.
Emmanuel is committed to the intellectual life of Christians by hosting nationally celebrated guest authors, video series, study groups, and other events and activities often times sponsored by us or in partnership with other organizations. Four Winds: Center for Spiritual Ecology is a mission group at Emmanuel. They meet each month, and have organized many such events.
